The ability to load and share high resolution work with incredible detail and clarity with others without having to wait a long time was addressed by Colaab with DeepZoom,
a Silverlight technology that allows for images to be downloaded and viewed instantly, whether its 5kb or 50 mb. This means that whether you're uploading an image, viewing it on your monitor, or sharing it with a colleague, the waiting time will be next to zero - with no loss of quality or resolution.

Colaab is the only collaboration tool on the market that utilizes this technology to bring you such unprecedented short loading times when dealing with large image files.

Some examples are available on their web site.

Thanks for sharing this!Shelly Goulethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01185188758536845729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238870936566985908.post-69900601203316474562011-03-21T05:46:46.301-04:002011-03-21T05:46:46.301-04:00This was very interesting, thank you. As a communications company, Avaya is offering a product which is quite unique to the marketplace.

One of the advantages of this application is that it is always on and always available, but that also means that the environment (Meet, Sell, or Learn) is fixed which makes sense, since it is trying to replicate either a meeting room, selling floor, or a learning center. I don't see the application trying to be a virtual business where you walk through the front door and then make your way to a conference room or a demo room, or a learning center, though I may be wrong on this point.

I think the whole concept of the virtual business with avatars is best suited for the selling and learning side of collaboration. Avaya's website talks about the application's ability to convert more visitors to buyers which tells me that the primary driver behind this app is one to help business sell more products online. And I can see where the virtual world and the avatars may be quite attractive to potential buyers because it has a game-like quality to it. You can customize the environment with your own company logos, but it seems like there is minimal choice in environmental designs. I can also see where this approach would be effective with customized learning because you have that "first person" view of your virtual world which helps mimic a real learning environment.

I personally feel that the application's ability to provide a highly interactive collaboration experience is a little less robust than those products that offer full video. On a video call, I know that I am fully engaged in the conversation, either listening or participating. With an avatar-based virtual environment, I'm paying additional attention to the graphics and generally just looking around. When I want to collaborate, that's what I want to do. I really don't want to have to move my avatar to a specific location or have to get close to another person in order to have my words heard. It really just feels like more work in order to get the heart of the matter.

However, with that said, I can see where the virtual world could accommodate one to visualize their own intra-personal communication. I can see my avatar now, just standing in the middle of a room and staring off into space with little thought bubbles (that I was typing from my PC) hovering over my head.

Kudos for bringing Avaya web.alive to my attention and I hope that I'll be able to use it in the not too distant future.Don Howsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238870936566985908.post-44037032955679769422011-03-20T22:00:35.082-04:002011-03-20T22:00:35.082-04:00Thank you for the tips. It offers a great feature for recording meetings for playback by others who couldn’t attend and is a great tool for feedback and development for the meeting organizer.

My experience with WebEx is that it's often better to upload your files for sharing as opposed to sharing your desktop as having been a participant, I find myself checking out the meeting leaders office screen, desktop photos, number of desktop icons, etc. in which some cases, you can see their mail box and sometimes if they have mail preview active, you can see the first couple lines of their mail messages. I like the feature which allows you to privately chat with other participants - this is a very useful option during meetings where you can communicate transitionally with others in the same meeting without interrupting the meeting.

A feature I'd recommend to other users is the productivity tools download which integrates WebEx directly into your MS Outlook calendar which allows you to add teh WebEx meeting feature directly from your Outlook meeting maker which exchanges automatically with the WebEx server and populates the WebEx link into your meeting request.

With regards to the VoIP/con call ability, I prefer to have a separate con-call due to the limitations noted by Shelly with VoIP.

One question for curiosity only - under your section labeled Tools and knowledge access....what is LMS support?

Nice work.Glennon.Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07835540240663389903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238870936566985908.post-37687471476714246762011-03-19T19:58:58.901-04:002011-03-19T19:58:58.901-04:00I was very impressed with the Colaab product and c...I was very impressed with the Colaab product and can see where this tool would be extremely valuable when high resolution images need to be accessed.

According to the FAQ page on Colaab's website, "the Discussion Hub is a built in instant messenger. Each Workspace has a Discussion Hub unique to it, and all users of that Workspace can contribute to the discussion. If the user you wish to talk to is online, simply type away in the message box, click send, and then wait for a reply in the same place." Unless I completely missed something, the only way to communicate with others is through the Discussion Hub (other than the Add Comment capability).

According to your post, you can set up a video conference from one of the tabs on the right side of the dashboard, but I could find no reference to initiating a video conference and collaborating on a resource simultaneously.

If voice or video capability is not built in to the application, then I would like to see these features added to the software. It certainly would be a lot easier to discuss my thoughts and ideas on a subject by voice rather than typing in to the Discussion Hub. I realize you might lose some tracking but they could always enable a recording option for voice communication.

CiaoDon Howsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238870936566985908.post-16554965456835194102011-03-19T17:00:29.952-04:002011-03-19T17:00:29.952-04:00Anaya sounds like a very interesting tool that can...Anaya sounds like a very interesting tool that can be use for meeting and team projects and being able to communicate remotely. It is still quite new I think that once the word gets around about this amazing product it will change many businesses and create many new ways of communications. I am a visual learner and be able to see what is being created on top of discussing it would help me a lot and many others that are visual learners. Some meetings or training sessions will use only VOIP (Voice over Internet) instead of, or in addition to, the telephone to enable people to speak to each other. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIPP, often referred to simply as Internet telephony), is used to provide free online phone service. (Skype is currently the best-known free VoIP service.) However, VoIP has some advantages and some disadvantages. A big advantage for participants who are joining a meeting or training session from home is that they don’t have to worry about long distance phone charges for participants. A disadvantage is that there is a limit to the number of “active mics” in a VoIP meeting, and also not everyone can talk at once. Therefore, VoIP is more often used for presentations and training sessions rather than for meetings.

A few suggestios:
o If your host indicates that VoIP is the only audio option for the meeting or training session you will attend, please plan for this by having a headset and mic.
o If you are using a built-in mic plus speakers you MUST remember to press the Ctrl key while you’re speaking (which mutes your speakers) or it will cause a distracting digital delay.
o If the host has set up a meeting to enable VoIP to be used, a VOIP “wizard” dialog box will appear that will enable you to set your audio settings. Once you finish the audio setup wizard, be sure that the checkbox indicating that your mike is muted is NOT checked. Some meetings may have participants call into a teleconference call via phone instead of (or in addition to) using VoIP.
Cheers!Shelly Goulethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01185188758536845729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2238870936566985908.post-52119116854080228632011-02-23T17:59:29.141-05:002011-02-23T17:59:29.141-05:00Thanks Larry. One has the possibility to collaborative work and learning with others who share their interest and motivations. In my mind the participation in SNS creates social capital which allows persons to draw upon the resources of other members in their network. The social graph of connections between and among different networked participants provides useful information for the formation of groups for collaboration. One can use the graphs to formulate individuals with like interests or to include those outside the immediate circle to gain access to non-redundant information, new insight or expertise critical to the learning tasks at hand.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08307225931225653737noreply@blogger.com
